BILATERAL CENTRAL CEMENTO-OSSIFYING FIBROMA OF THE MANDIBULA: LITERATURE REVIEW AND PRESENTATION OF AN UNUSUAL CASE

Abstract

Central cement-ossifying fibroma (COCF) is a benign fibro-osseous odontogenic neoplasm that affects the jaw, and is characterized by the production of bone and cementlike material in a hypercellular fibrous stroma, It occurs mainly between the third and fourth decades of life, it has a predilection for the female sex in a ratio of 5:1 over the male and is more common in White patients. It affects both the maxilla and the mandible. It is usually a solitary lesion, but when there are multiple lesions it could be associated with mandibular tumor syndrome due to hyperparathyroidism. In the present work, a bilateral case not associated with hyperparathyroidism is reported.
