The composition, abundance and richness of avifauna was recorded in two landscapes of the Medanos de Samalayuca Flora and Fauna Protection Area. The field work was carried out from February to October 2019. 77 species belonging to 33 families and 15 orders were recorded. Of these, 53 species were residents, 15 winter visitors, seven summer residents and one transient species. According to abundance, for area 1, 21 very abundant species were recorded, nine abundant species, 13 common species, 16 uncommon species, three rare species and three occasional species, while area 2 presented 15 very abundant species, 10 abundant species, 11 common species, 12 uncommon species and eight rare species.Werecordedonlyonesemi-endemicspecies.Regardingthetypeofdietandsubdiet, insectivorous species were the most representative with a total of 27 species. In addition, two species with a special protection category were registered and two threatened species at the national level and no species at the global level. The estimators that were used were Chao2, Jack1 and Jack2, demonstrating that approximately 87% of the total wealth of the area was recorded. This study showed that area 1 presented greater diversity than area 2, this could be mainly due to the variety of vegetation and landscapes present in the former, from agroecosystems to shrublands and bodies of water
